AFL-CIO v. Chao
The AFL-CIO sued the Department of Labor over the Department's LM2 regulations requiring more information in a union's annual report.  See our regulations page for an explanation of this regulation.  The U.S. District Court held in favor of the Department, the AFL-CIO appealed, and the U.S. Court of Appeals upheld the LM2 regulation and struck down a related provision in the regulation dealing with trusts in which a union has an interest.

UAW-Labor Employment and Training Corporation v. Chao
The UAW sued the Department of Labor over the Department's regulation implementing Executive Order 13201 from President Bush that requires federal contractors to post notice that workers cannot be forced to pay for a union's political expenditures.  After years of litigation, the Supreme Court declined to hear the UAW's appeal from their loss in the U.S. Court of Appeals.
