AFL-CIO v. Chao The AFL-CIO sued the Department
of Labor over the Department's LM2 regulations requiring more information in a
union's annual report. See our regulations page
for an explanation of this regulation. The U.S. District Court held in
favor of the Department, the AFL-CIO appealed, and the U.S. Court
of Appeals upheld the LM2 regulation and struck down a related provision in the
regulation dealing with trusts in which a union has an interest.
